occupycali: “There were growing signs Tuesday that city officials were moving to bring the Occupy L.A. encampment to an end. Los Angeles officials have given Occupy LA protesters a Nov. 28 deadline to get off the City Hall lawn, according to protesters who have been in negotiations with the city. At a meeting on the west steps of City Hall Tuesday afternoon, the negotiators told their fellow...

Occupy Trans*phobia →
From the creators: Trans* people are rarely in control of their own bodies. Medical and psychological professionals often require validation of trans* identities before medical transition. And, even when trans* people have that validation, many insurance companies do not cover hormones and surgeries that are necessary for many trans* individuals, and these procedures are viewed as elective. The...

fralcon: The reason baby boomers don’t understand the protesters is because we grew up with all advantages now being denied the younger generation—and it’s left us totally clueless.

flame821: http://www2.justiceonline.org/site/DocServer/10-2011_Brooklyn_Bridge_Arrests_-_Class_Action_Complaint.pdf?docID=1742#navpanes=0 Read the full complaint at the above link.   Should be interesting to see how this turns out.  700 people wrongfully and illegally arrested.  I had no idea of some of the stunts the NYPD pulled that day.

Eradicate the Bush tax cuts for the rich and institute new taxes on the wealthiest Americans and on corporations, including a tax on all trading on Wall Street (where they currently pay 0%). 2. Sarah Strnad: Responses to 5 Myths About the... →
sarahstrnad: “Myth” #1 The Occupy Movement creates or exacerbates the risks of homelessness by packing public spaces with the destitute poor, transients, and “hippy kids” who are unsanitary. Drawing attention to a problem is not to be confused with creating a problem. While Occupy movements across the globe have indeed attracted a number of marginalized people to the camps, these people...

Ten Ways the Occupy Movement Changes Everything →
occupyonline: 1. It names the source of the crisis. Political insiders have avoided this simple reality: The problems of the 99% are caused in large part by Wall Street greed, perverse financial incentives, and a corporate takeover of the political system. Now that this is understood, the genie is out of the bottle and it can’t be put back in. 2. It provides a clear vision of the world we...

How Income Inequality Kills Social Mobility →
occupyus: The basic thesis is that social ills, like crime and teen pregnancy, that have long been associated with poverty, actually have a stronger correlation with income inequality. Worst of all, income inequality eats away at social mobility. In Wilkinson’s own words: “If Americans want to live the American dream, they should go to Denmark.” Great read, with charts.

Clergy, laity support nonviolent protests at... →
“I see myself as part of the movement,” said Sniffen, 31, priest-in-charge of the Episcopal Church of St. Luke and St. Matthew in Brooklyn, New York. “I really feel like this is my generation’s plea for a just society. I think the Gospels make it quite clear in Jesus’ teachings that there can be no justice without economic justice.”
